Successive governments depriving beneficiary farmers of the benefits of seed subsidy worth crore: AAP

…CM should bring out white paper on the status of last year’s seed subsidy: Kultar Singh Sandhwan
…Were Captain government pro-farmer, it would have announced seed subsidy on time: Prof. Baljinder Kaur
Chandigarh, November 2 (Punjab Mail)- The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has leveled serious allegations against the Capt Amarinder Singh government for cheating on farmers in the name of seed subsidy worth crores of rupees. The party has demanded the Chief Minister captain Amarinder Singh, who also holds the charge of Agriculture Ministry, tell the people of the state where seed subsidy to the tune of crores of rupees released by the union government worth crores to the farmers during the year 2019-20 had gone, which never reached the beneficiary farmers.
In a statement issued from party headquarters on Monday, the state Kisan Wing president and MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan and MLA Prof. Baljinder Kaur termed the seed subsidy policy announced by the Chief Minister for the year 2020-21 as a cruel joke on the farmers.
Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that if the Chief Minister were the true benefactor of the farmers, he should tell the people of Punjab, especially the farmers, where the seed subsidy worth crores of rupees for the year 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20 sanctioned by the Center to Punjab Government had been splurged, demanding he should issue a white paper within a week.
Sandhwan challenged that the Captain could not be able to make it public as to where the amount worth crores released in the name of seed subsidy during his tenure had gone, saying the Capt. Govt had outsmarted the previous Badal government in the multi-crore seed scam, adding that the name of Cabinet Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa had figured out in the multi-crore scam, while during the tenure of the erstwhile Akali Dal (Badal) government the then Agriculture Minister Sucha Singh Langah and Tota Singh during had become the talk of the town.
On the occasion, Prof. Baljinder Kaur said that the season of sowing of wheat had already kicked off in many parts of Punjab and was in full swing but the Captain government announced seed subsidy for the year 2020-21 on November 1, which was a cruel joke with the farmers, she said. Prof. Baljinder Kaur said had the intention the government in the saddle been farmer-friendly, it would have announced the seed subsidy by October 1 so that the farmers would have availed themselves of the benefit before October 25 by completing other procedures, as wheat sowing season begins on October 25.
