Adopt the Practice of 4A’s  for Stress Relief

Effective stress management helps one to be happier, healthier, and more productive. Stress free life leads to balanced life, time for work, relationships, relaxation, and fun and the resilience to hold up pressure and meet challenges head on. Stress management starts with identifying the sources of stress in your life. All of us need to adopt the practice of 4 A’s i.e. Avoid, Alter, Accept and Adapt in our daily lives to get relief  from stress. These were the views expressed by Dr. Yogesh Gambhir, National Awardee CBSE schools during a webinar on “Stress Management in time of Covid Pandemic” organized by Puhspa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic can cause fear, worry, and stress, which could lead to irritability, unhealthy eating and sleep habits, excessive sadness, and difficulty with attention and concentration.  Fear and anxiety about a new disease and what could happen can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children. Public health actions, such as social distancing, can make people feel isolated and lonely and can increase stress and anxiety. Coping with stress in a healthy way will make you, the people you care about, and your community stronger, he added.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Neelima Jerath, Director General, Science City, said that exercising helps release endorphins within our body system which play a vital role in elevating our mood and keep a positive attitude. Stretching exercises and yoga also help us to keep ourselves fit and mind calm. Even playing with kids or pets can help us to manage and relieve stress. Further, healthier employees operating under manageable levels of stress will be happier and more positive, as well as, check absenteeism at the workplace.

Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director Science City said that elimination of stress is unrealistic, management of stress is an attainable and realistic goal that can be achieved by a number of strategies including time-management skills and overall healthy lifestyle.
